Look, I'm a McDonald's employee, I'm only fifteen and it's not really fair that you guys assume that I don't go to school or that we are all drop outs. McDonald's is a great place for teenagers to work because they have flexible hours and some restraunts even provide transportation. You have no idea how bad some customers get. I have kids that come in and say that I put hair in their burger when I know for a fact that it's their hair. I can't stand it when you get OLD PEOPLE in there bitching about how their burger isn't cooked "well done" It's not my job to cook your burger. I hate how the customers always bitch at me when it's the kitchens fault. When you walk in and there's thirty people crammed into a little 15x15 foot lobby, go somewhere else, I can't help you in 10 minutes if there are 30 people in front of you.

I realize that Joanna was out of line talking about how she's going to spit in your burger, but really, she's saying how that if you don't do those things (at least not when she's listening or can see you) you're McDonald's experience will be much more pleasant.

About a week ago, it was a windy day and my receipts were flying everywhere. This one woman walks in and shows me that if you fold the receipt the long way, it doesn't fly around.

The employees are suppose to create "golden moments" but you know, if I'm polite and your being a cunt, I'm not going to able to do that now am I?

You need to help us help you, to serve you better. It takes two people to make a golden moment, not one.

I love my job and I love dealing with people, but I can't stand it when they are just rude to you, I am always polite to the customers who are polite back.

Of course, you make quite a few assumptions here. Just because one has "excellent grammar" doesn't mean that they have acquired the "luxury" of a first class education. It simply means they can fucking comprehend, properly, the facets of the English language. These are concepts I've been able to grasp since the end of grade school. It usually indicates that the person reads.

I understand that people take minimum wage jobs because they need the money or whatever. But don't give me the excuse that it's "not their fault" that they weren't willing to attend school and properly educate themselves. If they really wanted to get out of that hole they've "trapped" themselves in, they would.

It's impossible for me to bring myself to feel a lick of pity for this person. I think that her blog has been blown FAR out of proportion as to what it is, but it certainly DOES reflect on her personality as an employee and as a person.

At the same time, I don't think that just because you're a customer, you have the right to treat those serving you as if they should bow and kiss your feet just because you're making their bosses and investors rich. While in certain serving situations, it is up to the server to be courteous and on top of things in order to earn a tip. But at some places like McDonalds, this certainly is not the case. You're not benefitting them by being customers at all. McDonalds is a multi-billion dollar corporation. Just because YOU never go to McDonalds again doesn't mean others won't. ;)

It is apparent that this blog was never meant for viewing by her customers. The fact that she made her blog private after her words had been publicized reflects this assertion. The words she wrote were just the venting of an underpaid worker dealing with rude people in a hurry (the worst kind) on a daily basis.

If you can't vent on your own personal website, where else can you vent?

You carry on about Joanna's "bitching", but I ask you, have you ever held a minimum wage job? Ever been laid off? Ever had a client cuss you out in public? Your excellent grammar skills point to a first class education, a luxury not everyone can afford.

Further, I'm sure these rules aren't posted in view of the customers. They just quantify the feelings of thousands of people doing a job you are either unable or unwilling to do.

Any person who deals with the public on a regular basis is going to experience frustration. I see many posters who say, hey, just go get another job. I challenge EVERY SINGLE ONE of them to, right now, TODAY, quit their job they currently hold, go get a minimum wage job, and keep me posted via email. I dare you. I double dare you. Not one person out there has the balls to do it. Guaranteed. I've held min wage jobs, and done well at it. If you want to shop, eat, etc, please have a little courtesy.

I work for a major chain (can't tell you which one, email me if you really want to know) and we are open every day except Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving, open 12 hours a day, yet every Sunday there's always a client who comes in at 8:05 and wants the whole treatment, about 60min worth of advice, credit app (add'l 10 min) etc. Would you go in a museum 5 minutes before closing and ask for a complete tour? Of course not. Why? Because they'd throw you out!

When they say Closed At 9pm that means "At 9PM we allow our employees to begin to clean up the mess the clients have made of our place of business, and then, assuming the supervisor says it's ok, they can go spend an hour or two with their families."

Of course, you can feel free to rebutt, that's the beautiful thing about Free Speech.

Just don't rebutt if you haven't worked in Joanna's shoes.
